My research emphasis has primarily focused on mesoscale convective systems that produce damaging long-track windstorms known as derechos. I am also involved in research examining feedbacks between human-induced land cover changes and the distribution of thunderstorms. I am currently examining the land cover controls on the distribution of thunderstorms and lightning in urbanized areas.
I teach a wide variety of courses in meteorology and natural hazards. These courses range from advanced synoptic meteorology to tropical environmental hazards and climate change.
